Cooper Square mourns the passing of Lois Slessinger PDF Print E-mail

Lois-soloLois Slessinger, a long-time Cooper Square Committee Board member and activist on housing and education issues, passed away this weekend at the age of 84.  "Lois will be truly missed.  She served on our board for two decades and was a tireless advocate on many progressive causes.  She volunteered countless hours in support of our affordable housing work.  She chaired our Fundraising Committee, and MC'ed our annual 3rd Avenue festival.  She also worked with our Membership Committee to help grow our organization," said Steve Herrick, the Executive Director.

Memorial planned for September 2011.

Ellen Stewart of La MaMa dies at 91 PDF Print E-mail

EllenEllen died on January 13th, at 91.  She pioneered Off Off Broadway theater on East 4th Street, and many Cooper Square Committee members knew her.  As part of the community/social justice/arts synthesis that is East 4th Street, we at Cooper Square mourn her passing and celebrate her life.

Many neighborhoods in NYC have a blob over them, from light to dark blue, meaning low to high average rent (across all kinds of apartments).  Hold your mouse over any of the blue blobs to view neighborhood name and average rent.  Note that some numbers are skewed because of a high prevalence of public housing (e.g. LES, Williamsburg, East Harlem).
