The Cooper Square Committee is forming an Advisory Committee to begin a Lower East Side Accessibility Project.  We are seeking input from people with disabilities to help guide our research and advocacy work.  We held our first meeting on February 3rd, 2011.

Our initial goals are the following:

1) Identify public accommodations (PAs) that are not accessible to mobility impaired people.

2) Begin a dialogue, including holding educational workshhops, with the operators of these PAs about how to make their spaces accessible.

As resources allow, we will also assist disabled area residents with making their residences accessible.

This initiative is not yet funded, and we welcome ideas for accessing resources to staff this project.
