Public Hearing -- Agenda Item # 22 Skidmore House
Wednesday, January 9, 2008,
at 10 am
Spector Hall, 22 Reade Street.
The owners of the lot at the northwest corner of Bowery and E. 4th Street are applying for a special permit to modify the use regulations to allow Use Group 2 uses on the 2nd - 15th floors and allow Use Group uses on portions of the ground floor and cellar. They also want to modify height and setback requirements for the new building. This lot also contains the Skidmore House, a landmarked building at 35-39 E. 4th St. Since the Skidmore House is being preserved and the owners of this property can develop a 15 story building as of right, the modifications are not of major significance. However, community residents are encouraged to attend and point out that DCP has omitted the Bowery corridor from the Lower East Side rezoning, and as a result we are seeing a proliferation of out of scale buildings which are undermining the intent of preserving the low rise character of the historic NoHo Districts and the Bowery. Call on DCP to rezone the Bowery with contextual zoning limiting the height of new buildings!
